If there was a hall of fame for 4c hairstyles, the 4c hair bun would be in it.

One of my favorite low-maintenance hairstyles that can go from cute and casual to chic and elegant in a matter of minutes.

While the natural hair bun is not a protective style, it’s super popular because it’s easy to style and maintain.

And in this blog post, I’ll show you some of my favorite ways to style a natural hair bun.

Fun Natural Hair Bun Styles To Try This Year

1. Sleek Low Bun

Of course I had to start off this blog post with the most popular natural bun style of theme all – the sleek low bun. This cute hairstyle is classy yet simple to make. You simply make a low ponytail and then put it into a bun. And if you have short 4c hair like me, then you may need to add braiding hair to complete the look.

2. Messy Top Bun

Next up is the messy version of this hairstyle. While you still slick back your hair into a bun, you now leave a few curls out to crate an unruly look. Of course it works best if you already have a curly hair texture by nature.

3. Top Knot Bun

Another great alternative is the top knot bun. This beautiful bun is is a great option for formal events as it looks more sophisticated.

4. Space Buns

I’ve talked about space buns a lot and there is a good reason for that. They are so easy to create and such a cute hairstyle. Create two buns on either side and that’s it. Perfect for us short natural hair girlies!

5. High Puff Bun

The high puff is another of my favorite styles. This easy protective hairstyle basically works even on bad hair days.

6. Natural Hair Bun with Side Swoop

Last but not least is the low bun with a side swoop. It’s a nice change for when you are not feeling the middle part and adds a little more elegance to the look.

How to put 4c hair in a high bun?

No matter your hair type, you can achieve a natural hair updo. You may just have to use a ton of edge control and gel LOL.

And here are the steps I use to create a natural hair bun despite my short 4c hair.

  1. Start by washing and deep conditioning your hair to ensure it is hydrated and nourished. This makes it easier to style and will help you reduce the risk of breakage.
  1. Next, section your hair into 4 sections or more for easy detangling and grip.
  1. Afterward, use a hair tie or elastic band to put your hair into a ponytail at the top of your head. Use a strong hold gel on your hair to smooth it out if needed.
  1. If your hair is short, you can mold the hair in place to look like a bun. But if you have longer natural hair, you’ll need bobby pins to tuck in your hair strands.
  1. Lastly mold your edges into place and cover them with a satin or silk headscarf. This will help the hairstyle stay in place.

The above steps are pretty much the basic steps for any natural hair Bun styles on black hair.
