Afro puff ideas to try in 2025

The key to an easy natural hair journey is finding low maintenance afro hairstyles that don’t take too much time.
And my favorite one is the 4c hair afro puff!
It’s easy, cute, and perfect for short 4c hair.
Whether you have short natural hair or are at the awkward length stage like me, with the right hair products, you can make it look good.

7 Cute Afro Puff Hairstyles To Try In 2025
1. Curly afro puff

The curly afro puff is the most original form of this hairstyle. Easy to create by simply tying your hair up top creating a pineapple look. If you have natural curly hair, then it will be easy. If your is short or thin, then adding a hair piece is a good idea.
2. Braided Afro Puff

The braided afro puff has become a new favorite of mine. By adding cornrows or two-strand twists in the front, you tame your edges and hair without needing to brush them every morning. It’s quick, easy, and most importantly – low maintenance.
3. Rubberband Afro Puff

The rubberband afro puff comes in handy if you don’t know how to cornrow or flat twist. But it is also a very popular hairstyle for little girls.
4. Natural Hair Puff with side swoop

On top of on my list of hairstyles to try out in 2025 is the natural hair puff with a side swoop. This hairstyle looks extremely put together while still playful. And if your edges are dwindling like mine, then it’s a great way to hide that.
5. Low drawstring Afro Puff

If you want a completely different look, then the low afro puff is a cute hairstyle to try in 2025. For more volume and body, you can add a drawstring ponytail with very kinky hair.
6. Afro Puff with bangs

This cute puff hairstyle is slightly more complicated if you have thin natural hair like me. In that case you will need to utilize 4c hair clip ins in the front to give the illusion of bangs. But for curly girls with thick 4c natural hair you simply want to twist out the leave out in the front.
7. High Puff with a headscarf

Perfect for day 4 or 5 of your high puff hairstyle is adding a headscarf. Instead of applying gel to your edges again, simply wrap a headscarf around and fluff up the puff for more volume.
How to do a high puff with 4c hair?
As I mentioned before, the high puff is a very easy natural hairstyle and I love it because of the quick styling process.
However, there are two ways to achieve the look. One by using only your natural hair and one by adding natural hair extensions to it.
Below I’m sharing the process for both. Simply follow these steps to create a beautiful afro puff.
1. Start with clean and well-moisturized hair
Even though this hairstyle is perfect for bad hair days, I have to mention that it is always best to do this hairstyle on fresh hair after wash day. Especially, if your prior hairstyle made use of a lot of products.
But if you don’t want to wash your natural hair again, then you want to at least moisturize your hair properly with water and your favorite leave-in conditioner.
This will help to prevent any tangles or knots. Once your hair is well-moisturized, use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently detangle it.
2. Secure your hair up top
The next step is to create the puff.
For that use a hair tie or elastic band to secure your hair into a high ponytail.
It’s totally up to you to decide where you want to place your puff. like it more in the middle but others like it at the very front of their head to mimic a pineapple.
3. Sleek down your hair
If you prefer your puff a little messier or don’t want to use a lot of product, then you only want to do use a bristle brush to brush down your hair.
But if you are like me and love the sleek look, then you want to use some edge control or gel to smooth down flyaways.
4. Fluff your puff (optional)
The last step depends on the length of your hair.
If you have long natural hair, the you can create an afro puff by simply taking a wide tooth comb and fluffing your crown a bit.
If you have short 4c hair, then you can use a natural-looking hairpiece to create a bigger afro puff. That’s what I do and love.
With these simple steps, you can easily create a beautiful high puff with your coily hair.

Tip from Justine:
If you have thin and short hair like me, then your hair may not be long enough or full enough to do a natural hair afro puff.
In that case, I suggest adding a natural hair puff extension. I got mine on Amazon more than 2 years ago, and still use it faithfully today.
