Best deep conditioners for 4C hair
1) tgin Honey Miracle Hair Mask
The first deep conditioner on my list of best deep conditioners for 4c natural hair is the tgin Honey Miracle Hair Mask.
This product is highly thought-after because it works as an instant make-over for damaged, color-treated, dry, and dull hair.
This is due to the different essential oils, such as jojoba oil and olive oil.
They nourish and heal the strands that are in need of repair and restore the health of even over-processed hair.
So, if you are looking for a conditioner that will not just deeply moisturize your hair but also give it that glow. Then this deep conditioner is best for you.
2) Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner
Number 2 on the list is the Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner.
A deep conditioner packed with 65 vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that will moisturize and strengthen your hair shaft.
On top of that, It’s a unique ingredient – blue green algae – that gives your hair intense moisture, while the biotin included in this product will stimulate the growth of your natural hair.
And thanks to the unrefined cocoa and mango butters your hair will smell like an island all day.
The only downside about the Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner is that it only comes in a small container.
3) Cantu Deep Treatment Masque
Here I go again promoting Cantu.
And yes, I do it shamelessly. If you didn’t know, I am allergic to Castor Oil, which means that I can’t just use any regular conditioner.
Thankfully, Cantu’s Shea Butter line works perfectly for me and is therefore my personal holy grail. So of course, I use the Cantu Deep Treatment Masque as well.
This deep conditioner does a great job of penetrating my hair cuticles and hair follicles, which has reduced breakage.
It’s the perfect deep conditioner if you have relaxed hair or manipulated it a lot because it restores and strengthens damaged and dry hair.
I included a link to Amazon here, but honestly, you can get this deep conditioner for half the price on the target website.
4) THE MANE CHOICE – Ancient Egyptian Anti-Breakage & Repair Antidote Hair Mask
Do you feel like you have weak hair or that you experience a lot of hair loss?
Or maybe you used to color/chemically treat your natural hair and now you tend to get split ends?
Then you may want to look into THE MANE CHOICE – Ancient Egyptian Anti-Breakage & Repair Antidote Hair Mask.
This deep conditioner is filled with some of the rarest and most robust natural oils such as Kalahari Oil, Oleaster Oil, Mongongo Oil, and Baobab Oil.
Each of these oils will strengthen, repair, and even add a beautiful shine to your hair.
In addition, THE MANE CHOICE deep conditioner is loaded with fatty acids omega 3 and 6 which will nourish, protect and restore your hair.
One Amazon reviewer even said that this deep conditioner brought her hair back from the dead LMAO! So it seems to me it’s a good deep conditioner.
5) Aunt Jackie’s Fix My Hair, Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque
Deep conditioner number 5 is Aunt Jackie’s Fix My Hair, Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque.
With a special blend of flaxseed, avocado & coconut oil, this product promises to improve the overall condition of your natural hair.
And while this is a pretty big promise, I must point out that I have NEVER seen a 4c hair product with this many Amazon reviews!!!!
More than 10k! Which means it must be doing something right.
Update: I have now been using the Aunt Jackie’s Fix My Hair Masque for about 6 months and I absolutely love it!
So far it has given me the best results yet because it really improved my hair health. It’s a very creamy deep conditioner that really defines my curls and makes them super manageable.
It’s now the number 1 product I recommend if you need to take care of 4c hair.
6) Mielle Organics Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner
Every time I find a good Mielle product, I always secretly hope that my hair will look like the founder’s hair after using it.
I mean, talk about #hairgoals.
The Mielle Organics Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner is derived from an Amazonian palm fruit, babassu oil and contains high concentrations of sterols and tocopherols.
Each important ingredient, which moisturizes and improves your natural hair and scalp.
After using this deep conditioner you will notice reduced frizz and flyaways as well as better hydrated 4c hair.
7) Sheamoisture Deep Treatment Masque for Dry, Damaged, or Transitioning Hair
The Sheamoisture Deep Treatment Masque is a classic for women with dry, damaged, or transitioning hair.
It is enriched with raw shea butter, castor seed oil, olive oil, and other natural botanicals.
It is an intensive treatment masque that deeply moisturizes and conditions dry and damaged hair, which makes it the perfect product to use for transitioning chemically treated hair to natural hair.
Moreover, the Sheamoisture Deep Treatment Masque includes argan oil, which restores shine while helping promote hair elasticity.
What can I use to deep condition my 4C hair?
For those of you who are new to the natural hair community, I have good news.
You can use very common household products such as olive oil, avocado, eggs, and other ingredients to create homemade deep conditioners.
And I will share more on that later on.
However, there are also great deep conditioners for hair growth by some of our favorite black hair brands that you can check out. This is obviously the point of this blog post.
So, with no further due here is my list of the 7 best deep conditioners for 4c hair.
Is deep conditioning good for 4C hair?
To answer your question: Hell yes!
Deep conditioning is great for 4c hair. It’s the best way to provide your natural hair with the hydration and nutrients it needs.
Because of its texture, 4c hair is more prone to experience hair breakage and shedding. By deep conditioning it, you help your hair strands stay moisturized, resulting in healthy hair.
But that’s not all.
Since I started including deep conditioners into my natural hair routine, is that my hair is much more manageable.
It is softer, more defined, and healthier. That means it has been breaking less and therefore retained more length.
How often should you deep condition 4C hair?
Ideally, you should deep condition 4c hair every 2 weeks. That is if your natural hair is healthy and retains moisture easily.
However, if you have brittle hair or heat damage, then you may want to deep condition it weekly.
Of course, it largely depends on what type of 4c hair you have and whether or not you use protective styles in between wash days.
I personally, have been deep conditioning my hair bi-weekly and have seen great results with it.
How to deep condition 4c hair
Now that I shared with you the best deep conditioners for 4c hair, there is only one thing left to do.
Deep condition your hair!
But what might seem very easy for longtime natural hair enthusiasts might seem overwhelming and confusing for us newbies.
So, let me help you. Because there is a science to how to deep condition 4c hair.
A solid 4c hair wash routine is very important and can easily take an hour or two of your day. But when done correctly, it’s worth the time investment.
- Step 1: Section your hair into 4 equally big parts.
- Step 2: Wet or dampen your 4c hair.
- Step 3: Apply a generous amount of deep conditioner to your natural hair.
- Step 4: Use a detangling brush or wide-tooth comb to distribute your hair evenly from root to ends.
- Step 5: Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic bag.
- Step 6: Leave in the deep conditioner for at least 30 minutes.
- Step 7: Apply moderate heat with a hair steamer (optional).
- Step 8: Rinse thoroughly.
Done.
As you can see, deep conditioning your 4c hair is easy once you know how to.
But truth be told, I still struggle with the timing and never know when to rinse out the product. I have found 1 hour to be the sweet spot for my hair.
But that might differ for women with low porosity hair.
So, even though I recommend 30 minutes above, it’s really up to you to find out what works best for your hair.
Homemade deep conditioner for 4c hair
When I first chopped my hair we were in the middle of a pandemic, therefore your girl had plenty of time to invest in her natural hair journey.
And I’ll be honest, that ain’t the case anymore. So, I’ve been mostly using the different products above.
However, one of the homemade deep conditioners for 4c hair recipes that I used on my own hair was very simple and easy – my Avocado Oil Hair Mask.
Because Avocado is a great source of biotin and magnesium it’s great for protecting 4c hair from severe breakage. The ingredients are super simple and most likely already in your kitchen.
I actually share the whole recipe in this post. Feel free to use the recipe and let me know what you think.
What to do after deep conditioning natural hair
The first thing you want to do after deep conditioning your natural hair is to use the L.O.C method.
I know I must sound like a broken record at this point, but I swear by this moisture-retaining method.
Using a liquid, oil, and cream to seal in all the moisture and vitamins your hair just received from that deep conditioning treatment will help your hair stay hydrated for days and take care of your 4c hair, even in winter.
And of course, after deep conditioning, you can put your 4c hair into a protective style, such as beautiful 4c hair braids.
That ensures that the ends of your hair are tucked away properly, which means healthier, longer, and stronger hair.
