Okay, ladies. I’m not too sure how to start this blog post. Because it’s not an experienced-based post. Which is what I usually share.
Instead, I’m creating this article because I need to know myself.
My boyfriend and I have been dating for a little less than 1 year now and I’m starting to ask myself: “when do guys know they want to marry you?”.
I mean, seriously. How much longer until the big question? I know that he is the one, but does he?
So, to help you and me out, I figured I’d share the nuggets I found around the web about the signs he wants to marry you.
How long does it take a man to know he wants to marry you?
According to Steve Harvey, men know within the first six months whether or not they want to marry you.
And honestly, six months doesn’t sound too bad, right? However, why does it then feel like the men who propose after six months are unicorns?
Well, I hate to be the party pooper, but sometimes men know they want to marry you, but still don’t feel ready.
Timing, believe it or not, plays a big role. So, even though he may know, he may not want to pop the big question just yet.
A man wants to be ready to provide for his family when he gets married. He wants to know that if something happens he can take care of his wife and kids financially, physically, and emotionally.
So, if he doesn’t feel like he is financially stable enough yet, he will delay marriage to prepare for the future.
What makes a man want to marry you?
Now, this is what we want to know. What do guys look for in a woman they want to marry?
Is it beauty? Is it status? Or is it unconditional love?
I actually surveyed several friends regarding this question last year. And let me just say, the answer was very underwhelming.
What makes a man want to marry you is how you make him feel. Meaning when a man is around you he wants to feel accepted, respected, and at peace.
Everything else is just a bonus.
Signs he wants to marry you
1. You become part of family functions
One of the most obvious signs he wants to marry you is that you are his official plus one to family gatherings.
No matter if it is his best friend’s wedding or simply his uncle’s birthday, everybody knows you’re joining.
A wedding is the union of two families, therefore knowing and spending time with you should be just as important to his family as the opposite should be to yours.
And the more he wants you to become part of his crew, the more likely he wants to marry you.
2. You spend time together every day
Now hear me out on this before getting mad at your boyfriend for not spending more time with you.
As a recovering anxiously attached girlfriend I have learned that quality time can come in many ways. When I say you spend time together every day, I mean in-person or even virtually.
You don’t have to meet up every day but stay in touch via text and phone constantly.
In my relationship, we try to give each other space, but make sure to check in via FaceTime in the mornings and evenings.
He is part of my routine and I’m part of his.
3. He wants to discuss the tough topics
If you are familiar with my other blog posts, then you know that I believe vulnerability in relationships is crucial.
When a man is serious about spending the rest of his life with you he wants to know more about you, your upbringing, and your family.
I mean nobody likes surprises, especially after you said: “I do”.
So, one big sign he wants to marry you is that he is open to having hard conversations with you. Some of these conversations include money, family, kids, intimacy, and conflict resolution.
4. He is invested in the relationship
If there is one thing I have learned in my humble almost 1-year relationship, then it’s that it takes daily commitment and dedication to make it work.
Because I promise you, there will be days and weeks when you will question why you assumed a relationship was more fun than being single.
So, if a man shows real investment into the relationship and is committed to learn and grow together it is a sign he wants you in his future.
I mean, why else put up with all the ups and downs.
5. You are part of his vision
Another one of the signs he sees himself marrying you is definitely that he openly shares that you are part of his vision for his life.
I am very big on manifestation and truly believe that every woman subconsciously designs her life according to her vision. Meaning that everything we do, we once envisioned before.
The same goes for men.
So, if your boyfriend has plans in the future that are “only possible” if you are his wife. For example, buying a house or having kids and shares that with you. Chances are high that he already sees you as his future wife.
How to tell your boyfriend you want to get married
Have you and your boyfriend been dating for a while and you are seriously wondering why he hasn’t proposed yet?
Oh man, that’s a tough one. But luckily not all hope is lost.
A lot of times, men just need to be made aware of your desire for marriage to take action.
So the best way to get rid of the uncertainty is by talking about marriage to him. Ask him to schedule a date for the two of you to formally discuss the topic.
This will allow both of you to identify possible challenges and lead to more clarity.
