Eek I finally did it! I finally decided to follow my dream purpose.

What does that mean? It means this summer I am embarking on my so-called #purposetrip. A trip around the world, with the aim to find out God’s purpose for my life. If you don’t know me I might have to explain it a little bit:

I’m Justine and I love traveling but I love God even more!

Travel

Traveling has been a personal passion of mine for the looongest time ever, or to be correct, for 8 years now (gosh I’m getting old). Back in 2009, I left Germany for the first time to move to the US for work. I fell in love with the country and the lifestyle. I mean great weather and great people what isn’t there to love, right? That experience lighted a fire inside of me that just never went off, so I started traveling for school and work to exotic destinations around the world. Stops included beautiful places such as the Caribbean, the UAE and multiple cities in Europe over the years.

In 2015 I decided that it was time to move back home to Germany to spend some time with my family and friends (the fact that I have two super cute nephews that I barely got to see before helped). The nice thing about moving back to my hometown was that it didn’t matter how long I was gone, I immediately adapted to the way of life again. The people and the places were still so familiar that it almost felt like I never left or that time stood still. With a new job and all my loved ones around the corner I got comfortable and all was good until… I went on my first solo trip to Istanbul last year and realized that ordinary life just wasn’t for me #QueenInTheMaking. This time I returned back home, felt depressed and founded a female travel community called #travelbff  to connect with other girls that love to travel. Little did I know that these amazing ladies would inspire me to jet off and find follow my purpose less than a year later. But that’s only half of the story.

Faith

Back in 2015,  I was living a life a lot of people would describe as blessed. I had a cute apartment, an exciting job and enough money to go out every weekend if I wanted to. Still, I was sitting on the floor feeling lost and lonely with nothing but pain in my heart. The kind of pain that stings so hard that all you can do is either cry or sleep. And that’s what I did. I fell in and out of sleep just to realize that the pain was still there and started crying again. Several hours passed before I was finally able to utter a few words through my sobbing ‘God please help me’. I hadn’t used my Bible in a while but for some reason (now I know it was God) I proceeded to open it up. I didn’t know where to start, so I just flipped through the book. After a while, I stopped at the only page that had a highlighted verse in it.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. – Matthew 6:34

Immediately I felt peace in my heart and slowly began to breathe like a normal person again. By now my neighbors probably thought I was crazy. I fell back asleep and when I woke up the next day I gave my life to Jesus.

Travelbyfaith

Fast forward three and a half years later and my relationship with God has evolved from an infant stage to a place of mutual trust, faithfulness and love for each other. Through prayer, continuous Bible studying and practical ways to live the gospel, I am growing as a Christian. Don’t get me wrong though ain’t nobody perfect! However, I choose to endure every challenge and enjoy every experience, while God is molding me into the person he needs me to be for the body of Christ.

Embarking on this journey to #travelbyfaith is how I am hoping to find out God’s purpose for my life. I strongly believe that if I allow him to lead my steps, entrust him with every decision on the way and follow his lead, he will make my paths straight by guiding and protecting me. I don’t expect it to be super easy or super fun, but I am sure that putting my love for God and travel together will help me rejoice in every moment.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5

  1. I can really relate to your posts. Especially the one about God’s no. Going through my recent breakup, I really needed to read that. I would love to start traveling more. I definitely feel my relationship with God is getting stronger since my breakup. It’s allowed me to get to know myself better as well. If you have any tips on solo travel I would love to learn more. I actually am a member of Pinky Promise as well. I found information on the group from Sprinkle of Jesus app.

If you ever have time I would love to connect more as I feel we have a lot in common.

    • I definitely know the stage you must be in now. It took me multiple bad relationships and the quest for happiness to draw closer to God. I will make sure to send you an email so that we can connect!

  2. Hi Justine,

    Are you still traveling?

My daughter is a solo traveler. She is on her second trip. Thanks for sharing your story. You can check out my daughter on instagram if you would be interested in her travels. Thewunderlustinyou

Praying for God to protect all the solo travelers. I think God’s purpose for every believer is to glorify Him in whatever we are doing. What do you think? What did you find out in your travels?

    • Hi Jackie,

Yes, I’m still traveling, but much less than before. I’m always excited to see others travel solo, so I’ll definitely check out her Instagram.

      Thank you for your prayers!!!

  3. Justine!! Thank you for sharing your story! It’s such a powerful way for you to give God the praise and also show His goodness to the world!!
God also gave me a passion for travel, and I am continually seeking ways to glorify Him through each trip and remember to always be grateful for His grace that allows me to go!
I actually just came across this post after Googling “glorify God travel” and I’m so glad I did! Looking forward to following more of your adventures. 🙂

    • Oh wow Jamie that is so great! I love love love traveling and I wish I could do more, but since I’ve started working in Ministry my funds have been rather low haha. But I agree with you, God gave each one of us a very unique passion that we can use to glorify him. I’ll definitely keep following you too an soak in the beauty of our world through your travels.

  4. Great to see someone engaging their faith as they travel! Have been hunting online for several years and resorted to blogging about faith and travel myself to try and fathom how the two interact, as I couldn’t find anything. If you’ve found any helpful resources, I’d love to know!

    Thanks for sharing!
