4c Blowout Hairstyles

4c blowout hairstyles

A new month, a new milestone. Believe it or not, but after my big chop in 2020, my hair has finally passed the awkward length stage.

And whenever I blow dry my 4c hair, it looks even longer and is perfect for a cute 4c blowout hairstyle. So, I figured I’d share my blowout hairstyles for black hair with you.

What is a blowout hairstyle for African American hair?

As always, before we get into the details of the different natural hairstyles, let’s look at some basic information.

Of course, there are many different blowout methods out there depending on your hair texture. However, on this blog, I focus on 4c hair, and therefore will only mention how to do a blowout on natural 4c hair.

The goal here is to stretch your hair length by loosening your natural coils and curls. By blow-drying your 4c hair you go from your natural texture to a straight smooth texture.

A blowout style is any style that requires you to blow out or even flat iron your hair, because you generally have to use heat in the process, I would not consider it a protective style

Which is better? Silk press or blowout?

A blowout is just one step short of a silk press. Instead of going in with a flat iron after using your hair dryer to get silky straight hair, you stop.

This means you apply less heat and don’t manipulate your curls as much. Therefore a blowout is a safer option for your hair. Less risk of heat damage.

How do you do a 4c blowout?

A 4c blowout is pretty straightforward, especially if you have short hair. All you need is a good blow dryer with a comb attachment.

Follow this step-by-step guide to get good results:

  1. Start off with clean hair. Preferably after wash day, to ensure that you don’t have any hair products in it.
  2. Detangle your hair properly, using a wide toothcomb.
  3. Once your hair is combed, apply a heat protectant spray to protect it from the heat.
  4. Divide and section off your hair in at least four sections. To keep it in its parts use butterfly hair clamps or bobby pins
  5. Now to the important part. Blow dry your hair section by section, using a blow dryer with a comb attachment. Start from the ends to the root to avoid hair breakage.
  6. Put the blow-dried sections into two-strand twists for length retention. Don’t worry if it’s too tight, that gives your hair a cute beachy wave.
  7. Repeat the same process for the rest of your hair.
  8. Open up the twists, brush through your hair with a paddle brush, and style it in one of the beautiful 4c blowout hairstyles below.

How long does a blowout last on 4c hair?

In general, a blowout can last up to 2 weeks on 4c hair. A great way to ensure it does is by wrapping your hair at night and covering it with a silk scarf. That way the hair stays stretched and smooth for a longer time.
